Final Training Session at the Walden School - 24 June 2017

Members of Groups S, 1, 2, F, and C train on Saturday mornings and we also offer a weekly swim session to members of Groups F and C as set out below.

Saturday Training

Regular Saturday training is primarily at Carver barracks, Wimbish just out of Saffron Walden,  during school term times.  We do use other training venues for either away days or when we are not able to use the barracks.  

Training will be a combination of bike & run as we currently have no weekly access to a pool for regular training since the closure of Walden School.  We recommend all members join a local swimming club such as Seals as swimming is a key discipline in triathlon.  We do aim to do a monthly swim session at Bishop Stortford College which focus's on key skills for triathlon.

The group the member trains with is dependant on their racing category which is by year of birth, not school year.  The training groups are as follows:

Carver barracks (Directions). This provides an excellent opportunity to cycle on tarmac or off road on mountain bikes in a safe car free environment where group riding can be coached and cornering skills practiced. Each group is lead by a team of coaches and a different discipline is done in each hour. You can see the activities for each group this term by clicking on the groups names or using the menu above.

Weds Swim Training

These training session are for any member of Group F or Group C (Born in 2006 or earlier) and are held weekly at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre.

The aim of the training is to build endurance and improve technique and will be more demanding than the normal Saturday swim sessions.

The session is limited to 12  and costs £3 per session which is invoiced every six weeks for the sessions attended in that time. If you are interested in attending these sessions please contact Mark Fraser.

Kit Needed for Training

Given the early starts it is advisable to get ready the night before. You will need to bring the following:

For Swimming:

  • Club swimming costume (or Tri Suit) and club swim hat
  • Swimming goggles. (please check it fits in advance)
  • Drinks bottle
  • Towel

For Cycling:

  • Mountain or Road Bike (please check tyres are pumped up and there are no punctures, the brakes and gears work and the seat height is correct)
  • Cycle Helmet. (you will NOT be allowed to ride without one so DON'T FORGET it please)
  • Gloves – small hands get very cold on a bike
  • Warm water proof clothes and running shoes
  • Drinks bottle

For Running:

  • Warm waterproof clothing
  • Running shoes
  • Cycle Helmet (we use them for transition practice even when you are not cycling)
  • Drinks bottle

Don't forget any inhalers!
